The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is the qualifying criteria set by the Government of India to ensure common standards and benchmarks for educational qualifications and skills of candidates applying for the job as teachers in Central Govt. aided schools like Navodaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya, etc. and schools under the administration of UT’s of India and NCT of Delhi. Structure and Content of CTET:
CTET qualifies candidates at two levels:
(i) Teachers at the Primary level: Class I to V
(ii) Teachers at the Elementary level: Class VI to Vlll
If a candidate aspires to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to VIII), he or she will have to appear and clear both the papers (Paper I and Paper II). But not necessarily at the same time as CTET score is valid for 7 years from the date of result.
There will be two separate CTET papers. Candidates applying for primary level teaching need to clear Paper l while those applying for elementary level teaching are required to clear Paper ll. Candidates intending to quality for the teaching job for Class I to Vlll are required to give both Paper l and Paper ll. There will be two language papers for both the papers. Language II will be a language other than Language l. A candidate may choose any one language as Language l and other as Language II from the available language options and will be required to specify the same in the Confirmation Page.
All the questions in both Paper I and Paper ll will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying one mark each. There will be 150 questions in each paper and the duration of the exam will be of 2.5 hours. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.
